Forget Goal Setting And Focus on The SystemNow this goes against most things I’ve read about and implemented about but thought I’d feature it anyway. It’s controversial as I’m a big believer in setting goals but the author, James Clear, makes some very valid points on some potential negative effects of goal setting. I think the main reason people fail with New Years’ Resolutions (for example) is that they focus on the process and not on the end goal and the emotional reasons for achieving that end goal. Using the weight loss example of the last post, of we only focus on going to the gym (yawn), or running or cycling or whatever it is we do, it’s easy to lose motivation – unless we make that process fun I guess.
