7 Reasons Why People Don’t Stick To Their New Year Resolutions

Business Concept - 2014 ObjectivesHappy New Year! Have you made New Year’s resolutions? Are you going to stick to them? Thought this would be a useful post given it’s the 1st Jan. I believe the reason people don’t stick to their New Year resolutions is because they don’t focus on the pleasure of the outcome they’re trying to achieve, rather the pain of the process. According to peak performance coach, Tony Robbins, we human beings are motivated by pain and pleasure – then need to avoid pain and the desire to gain pleasure. If you set a New Year resolution such as to quit smoking, you subconsciously associate pain to that as you regard it as a sacrifice, depriving yourself of something you enjoy. We don’t like pain, so it rarely lasts! But when you focus on having a set of lungs that will enable you to be much fitter, full of energy, vibrancy, your skin will look better, you’ll live longer, you’ll slow down ageing, you won’t stink, your sex life will improve as you’ll have more stamina etc – you’ll have a far greater change of success! You’ve got to give yourself a big enough “why” which is what this first point is all about… [Read more…]

The Importance Of Spending Time With Winners

Spend Time With WinnersThe original title of this was ‘Stop Spending Time With Toxic People’ but it sounded a little harsh for 2 days after Christmas! It is also a subject very close to home so to speak. As we move into the New Year, I think it’s something really worth thinking about if you’re setting up a business or striving for something that people close to you cannot relate to. It’s challenging enough building a business without the psychological challenges brought on as a result of conflicts and/or toxic input from people close to you. We become who we spend out time with so get out there and spend time with encouraging people in 2014!  And check out this great article from Entrepreneur.com of course.. [Read more…]

Happiness and ProductivityHow do we prepare ourselves to be uber productive in the New Year? By happy of course! There is a clear relationship between happiness and productivity – it transpires that happy people accomplish more. In fact, I can say from experience that this is true. Put me in a warm climate by the sea where the sun always shines, where I exercise every day, engage in my favourite water sports, where there are long hours of daylight and my productivity skyrockets. Put me in London in the cold winter months of rain and shorter days and my productivity takes a massive hit. I almost go into hibernation. Here are 10 scientifically-proven ways to be happier which are well worth 5 minutes of your time to read. I promise you won’t be disappointed. [Read more…]

Forget Setting Goals And Focus On The Process?

Forget Goal Setting And Focus on The SystemNow this goes against most things I’ve read about and implemented about but thought I’d feature it anyway. It’s controversial as I’m a big believer in setting goals but the author, James Clear, makes some very valid points on some potential negative effects of goal setting. I think the main reason people fail with New Years’ Resolutions (for example) is that they focus on the process and not on the end goal and the emotional reasons for achieving that end goal. Using the weight loss example of the last post, of we only focus on going to the gym (yawn), or running or cycling or whatever it is we do, it’s easy to lose motivation – unless we make that process fun I guess. Some great points are made here, so do check them out.. [Read more…]

10 Ways To Focus in 2014

What Is Your Mission? Need I say it, 2014 is fast approaching. Do you ever feel that the older you get the faster time passes by? I’m certainly feeling like that! This is one reason I believe it’s so important to remain focused towards our new goals, one at a time until we succeed. As we prepare for the New Year, we’ll be thinking about new goals, what we want to achieve, how we’ll achieve them and more importantly, why we want to achieve them. That last point is probably the number one reason why most people fail with their New Year’s resolutions – they focus on the process/obstacles rather than their reason for their desired outcome and how they’ll feel on accomplishing said goal. How To Think Like A Genius

How To Think Like A GeniusSometimes I come across articles that are just so damn good that I want to share them with everyone I know and everyone I don’t know. Thank the world of blogging! I’ve changed the name of this article from ‘Geniuses Aren’t Born – They’re Made’ to How To Think Like A Genius. During my studies of what makes people successful, I’ve come across the realisation that there’s one attribute that all successful people have and it’s the ability to focus on one task long enough to make a success of it. This article talks about how Edison failed 10,000 times before he came up with a material that would work for the lightbulb. Einstein is famous for saying “it’s not that I’m so smart, it’s that I stay with problems for longer”. The other part of it is having the motivation, the will, the burning desire to succeed with whatever it is that they’re setting out to achieve. This article will take a few minutes out of your day and I highly recommend a read: [Read more…]

Existential Bummer – Jason Silva

Why we feel sad when we're in loveIn the words of Monty Python: “And now for something completely different”. This blog is about ways to focus your mind, how to be more productive, how to use your time effectively, how to get more out of your day in every walk of life, be it your Finances, Fitness (health), Faith (in yourself and others, and spirituality) or Family (and relationships). The Four Fs. When we’re able to manage our time most effectively, we’re able to focus our free time doing the things we love to do with the people we love and are able to give back. Given that it’s Friday, I thought it would be appropriate to feature something completely different – something that I think will make you happy and appreciate those closest to you. Do you ever wonder why we feel sad when we’re with someone we love?

Thank you Jason Silva!
